ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Multimedia Artist & Illustrator

Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Terry’ Ganey’s creative journey began in a household filled with art and music. Inspired by her creative father and creative family, she pursued her passion despite life's detours, finally answering the call to become a full-time artist in 2017.

Her art, primarily in ink and watercolor, is a love letter to the Carolinas and life in general. She captures the magic of everyday moments, from the quiet beauty of moss-draped live oaks, to the dramatic waves on the coast, to an fleeting emotion on a stranger’s face. Terry's work, much of what starts out with her drawing passion, emphasizes energy and emotion, a style she also brings to her urban sketching and children's book illustrations.

She has won the People’s Choice Award at Going Local NC and has been interviewed by magazines such as VoyageRaleigh, Bold Journeys, and Canvas Rebel. You can find her work in Gallery Verrazzano at TheArtWorks in Wilmington, where she works part-time in the gallery and where she maintains a studio.

Artist Statement

Working primarily with watercolors, inks, the occasional acrylics, and drawing materials like charcoal, pencils, and my favorite - black Uniball pens, I capture the overlooked moments that resonate deeply with me—light hitting an old building, birds moving through marshes, or fleeting human expressions that reveal hidden emotions.

Living in historic Wilmington, NC, between city and coast, I'm drawn to the contrasts between human-made structures and the natural world, and to the seemingly ordinary world around me. I seek out scenes others might pass by: abandoned farmhouses, incoming storms, quiet human moments when people think no one is watching.

Drawing forms the foundation of much of my work, creating a skeleton, a ground, for color that brings energy and emotion to each piece. My goal is to reveal simple beauty and stories hiding in plain sight, encouraging viewers to slow down and discover the extraordinary woven into our ordinary days.

Portfolio

Throughout my portfolio, you can see I tell stories without words—just with the fusion of watercolors and inks, as well as occasionally experimenting with other mediums. Every day hands me moments worth catching: the way light falls, how people's faces express emotion, the quiet dramas hiding in plain sight. I translate them into colors and lines, into something you can feel before you can name. It's my way of saying: look, here's what I saw, and here's what mattered.

Her Artistic Offerings

Urban Sketching

Just take a look through one of Terry's sketchbooks - she always carries one with her daily - and you see on each page that. captures the city's or even the quiet country's vibrant essence. Whether perched on a curb or in the corner of a café, she sketches the unique architecture and energy of fleeting moments. She has a gift for immortalizing the pulse of each place, celebrating the beauty in spontaneity.

Artistic Fusion

In Terry's hands, a simple pen and watercolor brush become partners in creation. Expressive lines provide a pulsating structure while the watercolor adds the soul, resulting in artworks where technique serves emotions.
